VIAGGIO A PIEDI DALLA VALLE D’ITRIA ALLA TERRA DI BARI

Puglia
SeaNatureArt and CultureFaith

starting from euro: 165.00

“ This trip to Puglia is not; a journey, but many trips. Yet it is only one journey, for the love I bring to a land that has not seen me born, that has not seen me as a child and was not even the scene of a first love. (...) Puglia had to put it all in (...). And then the discovery began. Neither stopped at this first trip, nor the second, nor the third: the discovery will never end, because it is a country, Puglia, like the morning, a clear morning, a sunny morning liquid: and, the morning will be always the same, but never gets bored. And he always has something new, in his everlasting spectacle (...). Puglia is a wonderful, austere archaic country. The only one where we can still see the uncontaminated spectacle, and for endless expanses, of a flora before the fall of Indo-Europeans: only olive trees and vines, vines and olive trees, the plants that in the name, tenaciously preserved and transmitted, still reveal to have been found on the spot by the Aryan invaders. (...) And there is no less charm, for those who know how to feel, in this elementarity of landscape, than in menhirs, dolmens, trulli. If you think that the oldest trulli do not go beyond the '600, it will seem no more if it is fateful or fatal that Puglia followed to express itself in terms of a Neolithic civilization, to spontaneously find prehistoric techniques such as the cover to tolos for Trulli. To rediscover or to conserve, it is not well known: tradition, in such a tenaciously archaic place, can be redeemed even after centuries of hibernation. ” These beautiful words, full of love for the land of Puglia, were written by Cesare Brandi in his book "Pellegrino di Puglia". The writer tells his personal tour in Puglia, which starts from the land of Bari to go down in the Murgia dei Trulli, until then the south of Salento. An incredible journey, a literary and artistic journey along the sunny streets of a region rich in treasures and surprises. And this is precisely what we want to offer you. We want to take you to retrace a small part of this exceptional story on foot. We will do it with a three-day walk, which will link the Valle d'Itria with the land of Bari, and that will make us know the different souls of an extraordinary territory, where the stories are lost in myth. On the road we will meet history and beauty: impressive medieval castles, sacred shrines for former pilgrims, Basilian crypts, trulli looking a little esoteric, dreamy villages, and disarming landscapes in which the activity of man is perfectly in balance with nature.

So it's time to start walking and become all a little pilgrims of Puglia!

The itinerary of this day will take place in a particular area, passing between Alta Murgia and the Murgia dei Trulli, very beautiful, and not very anthropized, full of woods and beautiful stone farms. In particular, however, the route will touch three places of special and important relief, to which we will dedicate a bit of our time. The first stage, in fact, will be the rock sanctuary of San Michele in Monte Laureto, founded in the tenth century, which is one of the largest cave churches in Puglia, a place of transit in the micaelici and francigeni routes. Once again on the way, halfway through, we will dedicate another stop to visit the rock church of the Madonna delle Grazie, made from a cave incorporated into a historic stone farm, and surrounded by holm oak woods and a breathtaking landscape. Here we will have our sack lunch, enjoying the scenery and singing the birds. Then the walk continues, and before entering Gioa del Colle, we will make a last and necessary stop at the Church of Santuario dell'Annunziata, dated around the twelfth century, with interesting frescoes and a small cave under the chapel. Later, after a walk of a few kilometers, we will enter the beautiful Gioia del Colle, a town with flourishing crafts (embroidery, wood carving and wrought iron). Our journey will end with a visit to the Castello federiciano, an imposing building (rebuilt by Federico II), with towers and wide walls, on a mighty polygonal plant. The arrival time is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
